Hyman Victor was born Chaim Avigdor Chiry in 1883. He dropped the name Chiry upon acquiring American citizenship in 1921, when he officially became Hyman Victor, the anglicized version of his Hebrew first and middle names.
Hyman is pictured at left on his gravestone at Jewish Waldheim Cemetery outside Chicago, where he died on April 9, 1960.
